International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes

The IB offers four programmes for different stages of education: the Primary Years Programme for students aged 3 to 11, the Middle Years Programme for students aged 11 to 16, and the Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme for students aged 16 to 19.

Program Target Age Overview
PYP (Primary Years Programme) Ages 3–11 Inquiry-based primary education
MYP (Middle Years Programme) Ages 11–16 Cross-curricular middle education
DP (Diploma Programme) Ages 16–19 Aims for an international university admission qualification
CP (Career-related Programme) Ages 16–19 Practical education emphasizing vocational skills

IB Primary Years Programme (PYP)

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) is an inquiry-based curriculum framework designed for children aged 3 to 11

  • Target Audience: Young learners from early childhood (ages 3) through elementary school (around grade 5 or 6).
  • Inquiry-Based Learning: Students actively explore big questions and real-world issues rather than relying on memorization alone.
  • Transdisciplinary Themes: Subjects are connected through six major global themes rather than taught in isolation. Who we are? Where we are in place and time? How we express ourselves? How the world works? How we organize ourselves? Sharing the planet.

IB Middle Years Programme (MYP)

Designed for students aged 11 to 16, the MYP provides a framework of learning that encourages students to become creative, critical, and reflective thinkers. The 2026-2027 syllabus emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, digital literacy, and real-world conceptual understanding. MYP uses an inquiry-based, interdisciplinary framework with internal teacher-assessed criteria (1–8 scale) rather than mandatory external exams. Some schools use the MYP for early middle years and transition into IGCSE.

  • Broad Curriculum: Encompasses eight subject groups ensuring a well-rounded education.
  • Global Contexts: Connects classroom learning to global issues and realities.
  • Personal Project: A culminating independent project in the final year that showcases student inquiry and self-management skills.
  • Assessment: Utilizes a rigorous criterion-related assessment model, preparing students for upper-secondary education.

IB Diploma Programme (DP): Higher Level (HL) & Standard Level (SL)

The IB Diploma Programme is an academically challenging and balanced programme for students aged 16 to 19. The latest syllabus continues its strong focus on the core components (Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service) while embedding advanced cognitive and digital skills across all subject groups. Students study subjects at varying depths through SL and HL designations.

Standard Level (SL)

SL courses ensure students receive a broad exposure across various disciplines without overwhelming specialization.

  • Instructional Time: Requires a minimum of 150 hours of instructional time per subject.
  • Scope: Covers fundamental concepts, methodologies, and core knowledge.
  • Balance: Allows students to maintain a diverse academic portfolio while satisfying rigorous international standards.

Higher Level (HL)

HL courses are designed for deep academic exploration, ideal for subjects related to a student's intended university major.

  • Instructional Time: Requires a minimum of 240 hours of instructional time per subject.
  • Depth and Rigor: Includes additional topics, more complex concepts, and higher-order analytical demands.
  • University Recognition: Highly valued by universities worldwide, often qualifying for advanced standing or college credit.

IB Career-related Programme

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Career-related Programme (CP) is a framework of international education that incorporates the vision and educational principles of the IB into a unique programme specifically developed for students who wish to engage in career-related learning.

CP students undertake a minimum of two IB Diploma Programme (DP) courses, a core consisting of four components and a career-related study. For CP students, DP courses provide the theoretical underpinning and academic rigour of the programme; the career-related study further supports the programme’s academic strength and provides practical, real-world approaches to learning; and the CP core helps them to develop skills and competencies required for lifelong learning.
